Datagram SyslogServer receives syslog messages, parses them, and stores the entries in a database. SyslogServer is run as a Windows service. Two editions are available - Free Edition and Enterprise Edition. The free edition is limited to 8 receiveing IP's and a few features inactivated.
SyslogServer communicates via ODBC to a Microsoft SQL database that needs to be available (not included in installation). Automatic table initiation is supported.
The SyslogServer software consists of three logical parts. The first part receives and stores Syslog messages to file using a high priority process. No parsing or database insertion is done at this point as that could cause receiving performace penalties. This design enables very high receive performance.
The second component parses and inserts the messages into the database. The third component is responsible for the alarm handling, backup and optimisation tasks. The alarm configuration is done in the SyslogView application.
SyslogServer also provides support for backup handling and/or removal of old entries, and database optimization.
